Hello everyone: It’s Fran Defilippi Kurpil, on this early November day. I went to vote at the Fire House the other morning. I was #55…so it said on the ballot taker. It is usually very nice to see old friends there, but this time it was a bit puzzling as I had to recognize masked faces. The parking lot was quite full, but everything moved very quickly. Good job done.

Liberty Library: Ah, yes…our beautiful Library!! Marjorie Linko does a great job there, and after a few years of dramatic relocation, she and her staff have brought it all back to greater heights. She filled me in on happenings. Meeting A Fireman: Imagine the awe as toddlers and pre-schoolers met a real fireman during Fire Prevention Week. Special thanks to firefighter Ben Dowe for volunteering his time to show kids how he puts on equipment and making sure to explain how to stay safe during a fire. Teen Pumpkin Painting: The Library was the place to have some fun after Colleen Cunningham donated pumpkins which Mary Killian transported and painting began. I rather wish I still had a LCS teen in the family, but our granddaughter, Megan Burns, is upstate working at her beloved job as a schoolteacher. If you know Meg…you know how she connects to the young ones which is a special gift that teachers have.

Planting Spring Bulbs: Nick Rusin, Confidential Secretary to Frank DeMayo said, Thanks to Sullivan Renaissance an abundance of bulbs need to be planted before the ground freezes. If you are interested in Volunteering to plant bulbs around town, stop by Town Hall and help plant, and I think Nick said there might be some extra for your own garden. As I saw slick ice on my back porch this morning, it is a beautiful thought to picture colorful Spring flowers.

First Teen Advisory Group At The Library: A meeting was held and they worked on plans for the coming year. It is truly great to know how the library is extending special outreach to students of all ages, as well as pre-school. I can only imagine so many kids enjoying that beautiful, spacious lower level. Book Worm Club will have three sessions a week for six weeks after school and a new Books And Beyond Club for Middle-Schoolers will meet on Wednesday afternoons with Jodi Lieberman. I’m loving all this attention and effort going into the encouragement of reading.

Barbara Ward Blank: Marj Linko was so appreciative and thankful to Barbara for bringing her Seeing Eye Dog to meet with the students. Of course, it was a special time for the students who loved every beautiful minute with this precious dog. Thanks so much, Barbara. I am so impressed with your ability and, of course, your loving ability to be helpful.

Brian Mcphillips: While chatting with Brian, a former real-estate co-worker as well as a Town Councilman, he was very happy that Parksville Priorities Committee had their First Annual Parksville Halloween Parade. Posted video and pictures showed a lot of costumed participants having a great time. Our thanks to our town leaders, Brian and Frank DeMayo for encouraging Hamlet involvement.

Swan Lake: Another of our hamlets. I know that Nancy Levine has been a real “Champion” for her home town. For years she spearheaded upgrades, built gardens and is always involved wherever she can be. I see her name also on a list of those attending Board Meetings. We are so lucky to have Nancy in there aware and constantly working to better her lake-side community.

In a recent chat with Nancy Levine we came up with a plan to meet in the near future in Swan Lake to see the new country store and share some time. Nancy is a “favorite teacher”…at Liberty elementary school for my Chrissy Jones, so we hope she and daughter Cindy Gieger can join us. If you know Chrissy, you can imagine the great memories she has of her classes with Nancy Sunshine Levine. I’ll take some notes.

It’s Been Quite A Week: I took a quick trip to town. Driving down Main Street, gladly there was no car behind me, so I could go slow and see things like two brightly-lit Barber Shops, the Liberty Theater marquee re-installed and looking great and some Halloween scarecrows by the Community Garden, always a light on at Barbanti Real Estate, the always inviting, beautiful Town And Country store…(buy Local Christmas gifts!!) Another great local gift place is Liberty Agway and of course, Liberty Trading Post and Tractor Supply. No Need To Head Out Of Town…As I recently read…about the price of gas… “beer is cheaper than gas”, so stay local, and enjoy.

My Trip To Town…I met Denise Martin Benjamin in Shoprite. She was a close neighbor on Dwyer for years until she down-sized and moved across town. She mentioned neighbor Harry Edward’s involvement with the Liberty Fire Department and the work they do. God Bless them all. Also in Shoprite, I was checked out by Kelly. We have a hand-shake that brings a tear as I remember when she worked for Liberty Ambulette and often came to our Sammie’s house during his struggle with multiple sclerosis. Thank You, Kelly for never forgetting.

“I Like The Liberty Column”: I heard that several times. So I’m glad to receive word from readers. May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You.

Till next time…Tuesday, November 23.
