Happy Spring Everyone: It’s Fran Defilippi Kurpil. It’s mid March, 2022. I feel the upbeat local awakening as our days are warming up. Last week I took some branches from my forsythia and now I have a beautiful vase of yellow blooms in my living room and I also see my lilac has buds, so I’ll bring some inside and see what happens. When the lilac is in full bloom, the fragrance is so beautiful right by my back porch where we have our rocking chairs.

Aid To Ukraine: Glen Spey has a large Ukrainian community where we go every summer to enjoy those customs, food and dance shows. The church there is asking for donations which will be sent to help their homeland. Send to: Sts. Peter & Paul Church, P.O. Box 178, Glen Spey, N.Y. 12737.

Joan Stoddard, Liberty Mayor passed a resolution in support of the people of Ukraine. She emphasized that the free world is outraged by this Russian aggression and added, “They are in our prayers.”

Fred Moore, Liberty Water Department Superintendent: Fred has been promoted to Superintendent and is looking for volunteers to help water the hanging plants along Main Street this summer. They always look so beautiful and I’m so thankful to all those who help in some way. Some out of town relatives were raving over the gorgeous Christmas wreaths that were on the lampposts for the Holidays. I was just chatting with Etta Barbanti at her Real-Estate office and she said that Lynn Barry and his Street Department helpers need thanks and appreciation for hanging and taking down the wreaths.

Zoning Board is in need of members and would like to encourage those interested to contact Judy Zuraski at the Village Office.

Maureen Stabak is now our representative on Rail Trail Alliance which is working on upgrades and continuation of the Rail Trail throughout Sullivan County.

Our Community Garden Club: In my next column I hope to have some updates about the great flower and vegetable garden that is down on South Main Street by the Bus Stop. Club members will be getting it ready for planting soon. It always looks so great and fresh grown vegetables are the best.

Sullivan County Pregnancy Support Center: Liberty Life-Savers... Located on North Main Street near the Liberty Police Department is working with local churches who refer young women for free pregnancy tests, baby items as well as referrals for medical transportation and housing assistance. So often when I am in Shoprite and I see Moms and Dads with their infants and young ones, it makes my day just smiling at them. So whatever the volunteers at the Center can do is so important. I am the Mom of six. Our Cindy Gieger volunteers at the Center every week with Kathy Lounsbury. God bless all their efforts.

Easter Celebration: April 9th, Saturday... 10-11 at Liberty Library... Easter themed games with Egg Hunt at 11 on the softball field for youngsters up to 8 yrs.

Liberty Elks Lodge at 12 Noon for lunch, photos w/Easter Bunny and collect a free Easter Basket.

Munson Diner: The saying, “Meet at the Munson”... went around our family last week and we gathered there. I wish I had that Berry Salad right now. It was SO delicious. I try to eat light and this was perfect. Fresh strawberries, cherries, avacado, walnuts over greens. A very generous serving so while the others ate meat and potatoes, I more than enjoyed my salad. Nine year old grandson, Garrett Diehl finished up with a dish of something chocolate decorated with whipped cream. When Alan Burebe (RIP) was part of a group of locals making plans to bring the original Seinfeld Diner to Liberty from the City, I couldn’t imagine the Lake Street location, but it has great views of the village and has become a perfect meeting place with delicious food and welcoming owners. Bravo Munson

Plans and Progress Community Development Incentive Program: Providing grants up to $10,000 to assist local municipal community groups and not-for-profit organizations throughout Sullivan County with projects related to tourism, community and economic development, trail development, health improvement, agricultural and farmland protection and other Community goals.

Many thanks to those who appreciate a Liberty Column. Keep positive and pray for World peace. E-mail me if you have a Liberty item.
