Hello everyone, it's Fran. Thanksgiving here at the Kurpil homestead was great. Our girls took care of everything, so I especially enjoyed the delicious dinner and exceptional desserts. As we head to the end of 2020, our holiday wishes and prayers are for the best days for our families, close neighbors and our country.

Liberty Mall: My old real estate office is now looking so attractive and inviting as the new Visitors Center, as you know. A new tenant will soon be moving in. It is Hudson River Health Care. My questions about it were not answered, but I will get more information as soon as I can.

Even though I didn't need the calories, I couldn't resist a trip to The Cakery in the Mall, in back of the Visitors Center. My choice of carmel/ nut covered apples on a stick was so-so delicious, sliced up and shared with hubby. The cannoli was good also. I know I'll be going back for apples. They have self-serve coffee and little tables, but my most joy came seeing a few Moms online with little kids. One little girl stood, so engrossed by all those beautifully decorated cookies and cupcakes in the glass case in front of her. A great, new business in Liberty, off to a great start. I hope they are planning on summer crowds.

Adoption Month. It is so important to become a foster parent to these precious young kids and give them a better future. I know many foster parents fall in love with their young ones and then adopt. I'm told there are a lot of teens in Foster Care who are then assigned a case worker. Our daughter and her husband adopted a young boy maybe five years ago, he is now a precious teen living on the farm. I will never forget the day of the ceremony and I can't imagine what he was feeling! To get involved in the Certification process, you can call 845-292-0100 x 2292 or 2289.

A Warming Center: The County will provide, in partnership with critically important local faith leaders, Rev. Bridget LeConey and Pastor Graves, a warming center in the Village of Liberty. It will be at the Methodist Church on North Main Street from 8:00pm till 8:00am any time the temperatures are forecast to go below 15 degrees.

Fire-Fighter, Jesse Dowe: Congratulations. Jesse has successfully completed New York State Interior Fire Fighting Operations course at the Sullivan County Emergency Services Training Center. This is a big accomplishment and a great boost to the capabilities of the Liberty Fire Department. John Liddle is now taking the course and said it is very difficult. It is scary to think about what our volunteers go through, and I pray they keep safe while saving others and their homes. Say a prayer if you hear the alarm.

Town Board Meeting: Jim Gordon attended and said there is a deal with the Department of Motor Vehicles to have a satellite office in the Village. That will be very helpful for many. There was also discussion regarding the Swan Lake sewer work by Delaware Engineering.

Real Estate: I think I mentioned before how homes have been selling in record time. I noticed today that there is a FOR SALE sign on Sam's Gas Station. It had always been a great business, with such well maintained property. His gardens were a welcoming vision at that intersection and along the sidewalks by the parking lot. Let's hope a new owner will do as Sam did all those years.

My Best To Everyone: Stay safe. It doesn't look like I can get my sled out too soon, and I was hoping I'd hear Holiday music this morning in Shoprite, but not yet. I'll hang my wreaths and, as we start the second week of Advent, prayers for families, friends and our Country.
