Liberty Elks hosting tourney on March 7

The Liberty Elks Lodge #1545 will hold their annual Scotch Doubles No-Tap bowling tournament on Saturday March 7 at 1 p.m. at Kiamesha Lanes.

The entry fee is $20 per person and includes four games, shoes and a roast beef dinner at the Liberty Elks lodge located at 21 John Street, Liberty, following the completion of bowling.

The format of this tournament is that the teams (comprised of one male and one female) will bowl four games scotch doubles style (the lady rolls the first ball and the male attempts to pick up the spare.)

The no-tap format provides any bowler that knocks down nine pins with a strike.

The scoring method is exactly the same as standard bowling scoring.

That is, if you're participating in a 9-pin no tap game and you get nine pins on your first ball you are given a strike and your turn is over and that frame is then added to your score as a strike.

First place prize money is $160, second place $80 and third place $40.

Tournament chairman is David Graham who can be reached for additional information at 914-799-4233 or email at davidgraham1968@yahoo.com.

Bowlers can also sign up for the tournament at Kiamesha Lanes, 845-794-5561.

Ed's Outlook

Professional bowler Tommy Jones became the new Bowlero Elite Series Champion last Sunday afternoon at Bowlero Jupiter in south Florida as he defeated amateur Denver pro shop attendant Garrett Shovan 266-200 to win the $100,000 top prize ... one of the largest winnings in the sport.

Jones was recently elected to the PBA Hall of Fame.

The event was televised live on NBC.

“Bowling for $100K in our sport is rare and I'm grateful to have participated in the Bowlero Elite Series,” said Jones. Shovan received a second-place prize of $25,000.

The Bowlero Elite Series is a groundbreaking sports property that brings together Bowlero Corp league bowlers and professional bowlers from across the sport to compete for cash prizes in excess of $1 million.

This bowling tournament is sponsored by Bowlero Corp, the new home of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) and the world's largest owner and operator of bowling centers.

Bowling Tip

By Mike Luongo

Posture and balance are proper techniques for establishing good bowling scores.

So it is that one of the main things to be taken into account in order to help your bowing game is posture.

It must be strongly stressed that maintaining proper posture includes a position that implies conditioning strong muscles, keeping your head up and shoulders kept in a straight position according to the body.

When you take the ball in your hands, it is recommended to have it form a 90-degree angle with the legs and the rest of the body. This will give your more strength in the hip and more dexterity in what concerns the fingers as they should be kept straight in the holes of the ball.

Furthermore, I want to take a moment to talk about balance.

Balance is one of the basics when it comes to bowling. Even is you feel your body tension-ed, your body must balance from one point to another in order to be able to focus your energy upon a certain point.

When you release the ball, all your energy has to focus on your left or right foot and if your body is not balancing properly you may risk sharing only half of the required energy which will lead to a lower release level and, consequently to a slow ball which will not be able to hit the targets.

Work is important on posture and balance.
