Hello from Fran. February 2, Groundhog day, my calendar says. Farmer's Almanac predicts a light winter with recent warming trends dominating the eastern parts of the country. So we'll see if Mr. Groundhog agrees. So far this winter I have been enjoying the invigorating, sunny days and I thank our great neighbors and our son-in-law for help with our driveway and sidewalk. Thank you Gene and Derrick.

EEA Security Services: Liberty Mall. Jim Hopkins, is the Security Director with Security Guard Training, Handgun Safety Training, Electronic Finger Printing, Criminal Background Checks and Defensive Driving Center. My daughter, Jennifer and I decided to take the Defensive Driving Course on Saturday, so we will get a 10 percent discount on our car insurance. I would encourage any driver to take the course as Mr. Hopkins has organized a great course using the real news videos of tragic and preventable accidents. Jim explained important aspects of our driving privilege and recalled many real-life accidents he was aware of over the years. One family still puts a floral tribute on the edge of the over-pass down the road where they lost their child in a crash there. The course covers air bags, seat belts, DWI, DWD and Jim has videos of real people who have had driving issues that they can never forget, several were related to texting while driving. One young driver's tragedy showed how his texting had distracted him as he hit and killed a young Dad on a bike. Seeing the pain that this driver still feels after years, is very moving. Another woman could barely speak as she told of her husband's death by her niece who was texting as she drove.

So, even if you never text and drive, there were many very necessary aspects of driving that were discussed, dealing with aggressive drivers, road rage, air bags, seat belts.

New York State Point System: I never paid much attention to this, but it is very interesting. Points can mount up easily… 4 Points for tail-gating, 5 Points for texting, 3 Points for going up to 10 miles over the speed-limit and many other possible infractions. If you get 11 points on your current driving record, your license will be suspended. Jim impressed that the Motor Vehicle Department is very strict with these decisions. As mentioned above, EEA Security Services also handles fingerprinting if you need such for employment, plus handgun training and other security services. Jennifer and I enjoyed the Saturday morning with Jim's well presented class. Give him a call: 845-292-0999.

Liberty Village: Jim Gordon reports from the Board meeting that they are pleased with the new solar lights which will save the Village over $50,000 dollars. I spoke with Town Councilman Maurice Gerry who is happy to be back on the Town Board getting reoriented with the work that needs to be addressed. We are glad to have our seasoned guy back and I wish the Board a good year.

Peter Feinberg: I have to give much credit to my former co-worker at Peters Realty. He earned an award as one of the top 15 percent of real-estate agents in the country for sales for 2020 from October to December. Pete does a lot of advertising promoting his business. I see ads in the papers and on placemats, so that works along with happy buyers spreading the word. Pete has been a First Responder since 1973 and a Town of Rockland Judge since 2009. Great work, Pete. Hugs to Debbie for working around that schedule. I think she taught him to use time wisely!!

JEFFREY ALTBACH: Law Office. I spoke with Jeff recently regarding his new location. He is now sharing the beautiful ORSECK Attorney's office building opposite Dunkin Doughnuts. My real-estate dealings for many years were very often handled by Altbach's Office and his Secretary, Deena. I'll have to stop in and see if the Hershey kisses are still on the closing table. Good wishes to Jeff and Kirk Orseck.

Bye for now. Liberty column,is in every other Tuesday's edition. God bless our families and our Country.
