LIBERTY – The Indians, 7-3 (2-1) continued to build on their strong start to the 2023 season with a big league win over O’Neill on Wednesday afternoon. Behind David Philips’ six innings on the mound, allowing just four hits and no earned runs, Liberty’s offense exploded for 15 runs in the win.

Elliel Lima had three hits, including a double, and Londyn Guara added a pair of doubles and 3 RBI in the win.

Softball

Tri-Valley hosted Chester earlier this week, taking on the Hambletonians on Tuesday afternoon. After not allowing a single run through the first six innings, the Lady Bears were able to build a 5-0 lead. In the top of the 7th, Chester made it a ball game with a 3-run homerun and a fielder’s choice RBI to cut the lead to 5-4, but Tri-Valley buckled down defensively and held on for the win.

Jenna Carmody scored three runs and went 4-4 at the plate with a single, double and two triples.

Carmody threw a complete game and struck out three Hambletonians in the seven inning effort. The Bears moved to 6-2 overall after defeating the now 10-3 Chester squad.

Golf

Monticello and Fallsburg headed to Lochmor on Tuesday afternoon for a non-league golf match. Monticello’s Joseph Russo shot a match-best 38 as the Panthers went on to win 241-300. Monticello’s record moved to 6-5 and they’re still undefeated at 3-0 in division contests.
