Forestburgh, NY – The Forestburgh Playhouse is thrilled to announce its annual LOCAL AUDITIONS, inviting the exceptional talent from the Sullivan Catskills and surrounding counties to join its celebrated 2025 season. This is an incredible opportunity for local artists to share the stage with professional performers and be part of the region’s premier theatrical productions.

Auditions will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM in the auditorium at Sullivan West High School.

To secure an audition spot, email production@fbplayhouse.org with the subject line “Local Casting Signup.” In your email, specify if you are auditioning for Shrek the Musical, The Full Monty, Newsies, or the 2025 Junior ResCo program. A detailed response with audition requirements and time slots will follow.

Audition Opportunities by Age Group

Ages 5-15: Shrek the Musical

Young artists can audition for a variety of fun and dynamic roles, including:

Young Shrek (Ages 5-10)

Young Fiona (Ages 6-10)

Teen Fiona (Ages 10-15)

Shrek Ensemble (Ages 5-15): Ogres, monsters, fairy tale characters, villagers, and more!

Audition Requirements: Prepare a 16-bar selection (30-45 seconds) of a favorite song. Bringing piano sheet music is encouraged but not mandatory. Enthusiasm and a love of singing and dancing are key!

Rehearsal & Performance Schedule:

Rehearsals: Select weekends starting in late June, with additional morning and evening rehearsals closer to the July opening.

Performances: Thursdays and Saturdays at 11:00 AM from July 10 – August 16, 2025. Cast members must commit to at least six performances.

Ages 10-14: The Full Monty

Audition for the role of Nathan Lukowski principal role in The Full Monty!

Ages 10-14: Jerry’s young son who is 12 years old and going on 40. Nathan has a great sense of humor and needs to sing and act well.

Audition Requirements: Auditioners should bring a 16-bar selection (30-45 seconds) of their favorite song. Piano sheet music is required.

If You Are Cast: If you are cast and accept the offer to join The Full Monty, you will be required to attend all called rehearsals and performances. You will not be called every day of rehearsals but must be ready to commit to a fast, exciting, and intense process.

Rehearsal & Performance Schedule:

Rehearsals: Typically from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (lunch provided) Tuesdays through Saturdays. There is a Monday tech rehearsal (7:00 PM – Midnight) and a final dress rehearsal (12:30 PM – 5:00 PM, dinner provided).

Performances: July 1-13, Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 PM, Wednesdays at 2:00 PM, and Sundays at 3:00 PM.

What to Bring: Your talent! Auditioners need to bring a 16-bar selection of a song that showcases your talent. Please have your sheet music marked and ready for the accompanist. If you do not have sheet music, you may sing a short selection a cappella.

Ages 10-14: Disney’s Newsies

Audition for the role of Les, a talented young artist for the role of Les, a cheeky and precocious young newsie. 

Ages 10-14: Les is Davey’s younger brother who is inspired by the freedom of the newsies and loves their independent lifestyle. A natural salesboy and pint-sized charmer.

Vocal Range: Db3-Bb3. Movement skills are a plus!

Audition Requirements: Prepare a 16-bar selection (30-45 seconds) of a favorite song with sheet music for the accompanist.

Rehearsal & Performance Schedule:

Newsies Rehearsals: Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (lunch provided), with additional tech and dress rehearsals.

Performances: July 29 – August 10, 2025, with shows Tuesday-Saturday at 8:00 PM, Wednesday at 2:00 PM, and Sunday at 3:00 PM. Attendance at all performances is required.

Ages 12-18: 2025 Junior Resident Company (Jr. ResCo)

This elite program offers young performers the chance to work closely with industry professionals and develop their skills. Participants will:

Perform in Playhouse Cabarets.

Take master classes on professional acting, understudying, dance captaincy, and more.

Understudy roles in Shrek the Musical and other mainstage productions.

Attend all seven mainstage producer runs.

Email production@fbplayhouse.org with the subject line “Jr ResCo Audition” to schedule an audition. Prepare two contrasting 16-bar song selections with sheet music. A movement call may also be included.
