HANKINS — On Saturday, July 20th three officers from our local FFA chapter, Brooke DeCarlo-President, Alison McCarthy-Secretary, and Alice Ferber-Reporter traveled out to Narrowsburg Farmers Market with their FFA advisor Padraic McCarthy to educate visitors about the FFA, our chapter, and to fundraise for the National FFA Convention Trip.
The FFA is the premier leadership program in the nation. Through FFA, members can participate in leadership competitions including reciting the FFA Creed by memory, prepared public speaking, quiz bowl, and more. FFA members get to travel to the Adirondacks- Camp Oswegatchie and various parts of New York for local, districts, sub states, and states competitions. The FFA is just as important in school as it is out of school, out of school you are responsible for managing an agricultural-related project called a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). There are 985,000 FFA members across the country with 70,000 of them attending the National Convention in Indianapolis, IN. Six members from the Sullivan West FFA chapter are attending the National Convention October 20-27, traveling about 1600 miles by charter bus, costing $750 per person. Fundraising at the Narrowsburg Farmer’s Market brought in about $300 and we have other fundraisers planned.
Anyone who wants to donate to help offset our costs can send donations to: Sullivan West FFA. PO Box 309, Lake Huntington, NY 12752.
