Losers In Court of Public Opinion

Why is there so much hatred in our society today?

Matt Rosenberg, a journalist, author and a former Yellow Cab driver in the City of Chicago noted recently “that for several years prior to 2020 violent crime and negative national sports demonstrations were on a decline.”

Rosenberg has worked for numerous publications including the Seattle Times, the Chicago Sun Times, The Open Standard, City Journal, National Review, Jewish World Review, the Chicago Review and the Denver Post.

In regard to being losers in the court of public opinion it just happened recently during the Final Four of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament in Minneapolis when the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s championship team stayed off the court during the playing of the national anthem before the game in the Final Four of the NCAA’s Women’ Basketball tournament.

Writer Brian Linder of PennLive noted, “it was particularly noticeable because it was the first time during the women’s NCAA tournament that an opponent was actually off the court for the song that almost every American sports fan loves and knows by heart.”

This isn’t the first time an incident like this took place as Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley and her team have been off the court for the National Anthem all year and Staley explained during a 2021 interview with the ESPN-owned website Landscape that the reason is to “protest racial injustice.”

Linder wrote, “the Gamecocks won the national championship but they’re already losers in the court of public opinion because their opponent, the Louisville Cardinals honored the anthem on the basketball court…and fans noticed the difference.”

Rosenberg pointed out that “our present judicial system asks for probation when society doesn’t follow the rules but this protest by the Gamecocks did not violate a law.”

Coaches who have addressed this question told the publication ‘Coach & Athletic Director’, “that 27% of coaches would not punish an athlete who wanted to sit or kneel during the anthem. Nearly 20% said they would suspend the player while 14.4 % said they would reduce their playing time.”

Some coaches are telling the athletes, “ how they got the right to have their choice and why it’s disrespectful to the men and women who have sacrificed so much to keep that flag flying.”

Another coach said the protests, “need to stop, it’s a disgrace and disrespectful to our country and the flag is a sign of freedom and what our soldiers have died for to give us the freedoms we have today.”

Linder noted that “no coaches in the survey supported removing the team from the auditorium when the national anthem is being played.”

When is Ed Townsend going to get real? Again he complains, much like the time NFL players kneeled during the National Anthem. This time it's because a women's basketball team stayed off the court during the playing of the National Anthem.

Yet, to date I haven't read one word from him bemoaning the traitors and violent insurrectionists, from Trump, his cohorts, and a significant number of congressional officeholders. Not one word about the apparent contempt that some GOP members of the county legislature and other officeholders hold for their constituents. Not one iota about GOP sponsored voter suppression laws enacted in Republican-controlled states.

Where was his outrage as Republican senators rudely and crudely tried to spoil the nomination of a Black woman to the Supreme Court? I guess he saw no disrespect toward our country in that regard. I can't criticize him when he writes columns about gun ownership and sports--two subjects I have little interest in. But when he tries to imply that individuals who peacefully demonstrate for social justice are anti-American, I must speak out.

Obviously Ed Townsend is brimming with nationalist pride--too bad he hasn't a clue, or could care less as to what the United States stands for.

What goes around comes around. When I was young and involved in protests against the Vietnam War, people like Ed Townsend were the first to say, " if you don't like it, leave the country". What he and other narrow minded like him fail to understand is the meaning of patriotism.

Rubin you always show your liberal moronic self. Where's the outrage is right but put it where it goes, towards the democratic party which hasn't treated their misdoings as anything wrong, but HATE is what it really is.

I mention Sen Maxine waters, like I have to say anything more, but of course I do to get thru to you.

like Maxine, several to many of the democratic party called on Violence toward the Newly Elected Trump Family, the Trump Administration and his Cabinet members to be dragged out in to the streets and beaten and quartered like beef cattle, the democrats wanting the highest level of our gov't disgraced and dragged out and fought, VIOLENCE they praise toward them only to be left alone and unpunished a the World Laughed at us!

Then Inauguration Day and the liberal women who 'Publicly Threatened the lives' of them as well with no punishment nor arrests!

This was not 'The People' but sore losers that got away with everything normal ever day people would've been arrested and trialed for BUT of course you don't mind that. It fits your immoral agenda!

You used to beat on Pasquale for his religion and any thing he said that was Pro-America!

So, when will you put America First? Probably never, if you want to hype on someone how about Kathy Werner and all her stupid and outrageous Rants against the sitting president? Now if someone needs to be noodle-whipped look no further than her but you won't.

    You poor misguided fool.

Protest my ass, why don't they go in the parking lot to protest because the lime light won't follow there.

Remember, Ed isn't the only one to speak against the anthem protests, a lot of America did also.

Those that protest our country should leave and live where noone has FREEDOM but they too coward to do so.

Maybe get a lesson on comprehension, his article was all about WHAT other JOURNALISTS HAD WRITTEN!
