Louise B. Eggleton of Roscoe, NY, a retired Staff Development Coordinator for the County of Sullivan and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at her home. She was 88.
The daughter of the late Charles E. and Aileen A. Wallace Button, she was born February 15, 1933 in Middletown, NY.
Louise was a long-time teacher at several area schools and later retired from Sullivan County Department of Social Services. She was a 75-year member of the United Church of Roscoe where she was superintendent and teacher for the Sunday School, a member of the choir and the women’s auxiliary; a member of the Sullivan 5 Star Chapter #298 Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years and had been Grand Matron several times for the local chapter, also a past District Deputy Grand Matron. Louise was a long-time Board member for the Roscoe Free Library; a member of the Roscoe Rockland Garden Club, a former member of the Red Hats Society, and a member of the Roscoe Bridge Club.
Louise will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who lived a life of faith and service to others. Survivors include four sons, Leslie Eggleton and his wife Donna of Saranac Lake, NY, Robert Eggleton and his wife Dawn of Roscoe, NY, James Eggleton and his wife Sue of Wurtsboro, NY, and Philip Eggleton and his wife Shelley of Roscoe, NY; three sisters-in-law, Susan Button, Jane Klemm and her husband Frank, and Elaine Hubbert; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, of 67 years, Donald L. Eggleton on July 14, 2021.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Orange Sullivan Hospice for the care given to Louise and support given to the family during this difficult time.
Visitation was held on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, NY. Masks were required regardless of vaccination status.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the United Church of Roscoe, Church Street, Roscoe, NY. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate. Masks are required regardless of vaccination status.
Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe NY. A reception will follow at the Roscoe Community Center.
