Louise “Pizzi” Traver, longtime Wurtsboro and Rock Hill resident, died at home on September 16th in Rock Hill, New York. She was 78. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, John Traver; daughters Bonnie Campion and Sharon (Ryan) Pearce; granddaughters Erin, Katherine, and Natalie; brother Peter (Terri) Pizzino; and countless other family and friends.

Traver was a longtime math teacher at Middletown High School, Monticello High School, and Valley Central High School. Beyond the classroom, she tutored dozens of Wurtsboro and Rock Hill youth through the rigors of algebra and trigonometry. Many kids passed their NYS Regents thanks to the hours spent at Pizzi’s kitchen counter. In later years, she took to mentoring younger teachers and developing curriculum to ensure the next generation had the skills they needed to succeed.

Pizzi was also an active member of her community. She’s especially known for her service with the Mamakating First Aid Squad, where she served in countless leadership roles over 50 years. She was also Secretary and Treasurer for the Wanaksink Lake Club, a frequent volunteer at the Wurtsboro Food Pantry, the Wurtsboro Library, the Michael Diamond Memorial Foundation, and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 18th from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 20th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. A brief gathering will follow at the Mamakating First Aid Squad, 68 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mamakating First Aid Squad.

The family would like to thank the professionals from Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County for the outstanding care they provided, and the many friends and family who have supported us these last few months.

Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com.
