GLEN SPEY – The Lumberland Senior Group will be having a “Meet and Greet” for Town of Lumberland seniors on May 3, at noon at the Lumberland Senior Center located at the Lumberland Town Hall, 1054 Proctor Road, Glen Spey.

This is an opportunity for seniors in the Lumberland community to meet with other seniors and hear about activities and events occurring in the community. A light lunch will be served, so they ask that seniors wishing to participate please call Sheila Hocker at (845) 856-1707 to confirm attendance, as space may be limited.

The Sullivan County Office of Human Rights and the Office for the Aging’s Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) will be there to share news and updates on issues in the County affecting seniors, as well as upcoming events and opportunities, including the opportunity to join RSVP.

Topics will include a conversation to inform the Office of Human Rights on topics for the Regional Senior Summit as well as to educate the office on emerging issues to relay back to relevant agencies in order to address these issues. The Office of Human Rights will be presenting, in collaboration with ATI, digital literacy courses for seniors, so as to provide basic computer skills at locations where seniors congregate throughout our community. Courses and locations will be announced in the future.

The Office of Human Rights and RSVP (with assistance from the Human Rights Commission) are looking for members to serve as RSVP Task Force volunteers to assist in breaking down the communication barrier in Sullivan County so as to provide important information and events that are taking place for seniors and youth.

RSVP staff will provide an overview of the RSVP program, which is looking to recruit new volunteers, as well as share the many services that are provided through the program to seniors in the community and through the Office for the Aging.

There will also be a discussion to establish a senior-led Senior Center Coalition, while recruiting senior team leaders to meet quarterly to discuss emerging issues and establish a support network, acting as a communication hub for information sharing and community events. This will also allow the RSVP Task Force volunteers to disseminate important information and events to community members.
