Man rescued after falling through ice on White Lake

WHITE LAKE – A man was rescued from frozen waters after he fell through the ice on White Lake on Wednesday, January 4.

New York State Police reported that Bill Zarick, 76, of Bethel was cross country skiing on the lake when he fell through thin ice around 5 p.m. 

After being rescued and brought safely back to shore by emergency personnel, which included members of the Kauneonga Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the Town of Bethel Constabulary, and New York State Police Troopers.

Kauneonga Lake Volunteer Fire Department members Kevin Rhyne, Bill Gettle, and Lt. Ryan Pennell were reported to be on scene assisting the subject out of the ice.

Zarick was transported via Mobilemedic EMS to Garnet Health Medical Center. It is reported that the injuries sustained are not life threatening.
