Marie Louise Morgan, a retired mutuel clerk for the Monticello Raceway, and longtime resident of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Rock Hill surrounded by her loving and supportive family. She was 86.

Daughter of the late Henrik Ofvergard and Aagot Jesperson Ofvergard, Marie was born March 18, 1938 in Stockholm, Sweden. She was the widow of William J. “Bill” Morgan who predeceased her on November 22, 2005, one under par.

Marie was very proud of her birth country. She emigrated from Sweden to the United States when she was 18 years old to seek work as an au pair in New Jersey and ended up falling in love with the great Billy Morgan from Orange, NJ, where he was working at a local golf course. They eventually relocated to the Monticello area where they would come to raise their three children. There, Marie worked at the Monticello Raceway as a mutuel clerk, helping patrons place their bets on their favorite horses, and Bill worked as a bartender, making his rounds (and serving plenty of them) at places like the Concord Resort Night Owl Lounge, and D’s in Monticello. In their later years, they became snowbirds, staying in North Miami Beach for the winters, and after Bill passed in 2005, Marie redirected her energy towards being the wonderful Mormor and Farmor her family knew her as until her passing.

“The Swede” is survived by a daughter: Linda L. Morgan-Kenny and her husband, Joe, of Rock Hill; two sons: Scott W. Morgan & his wife Jennifer of Nashville, TN and Henrik 'Rick' Morgan and his wife, Jennifer, of Glen Spey; five grandchildren: Jake, Carlie, Reece, and Brooke, to which she was Farmor, and Nate, to which she was Mormor; several nieces and nephews on the Morgan side, and, finally, her family still across the pond: her big brother Sven Ofvergard and his family from Stockholm, Sweden. In addition to her husband Bill, she was predeceased by her beautiful granddaughter: Ashley Lynn Morgan, to which she was also Mormor.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22 from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 23 at 1:00pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Ashley & Sierra Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o CFOS, 30 Scott’s Corners Drive, Suite 203, Montgomery, NY 12549, or to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties (www.hospiceoforange.com) who were incredible in helping us to get our Mormor/Farmor home for comfort care.

Hej då och vi älskar dig, Bissan.

Arrangements are under the direction of her favorite son-in-law of VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com
