Marilyn Betters, a resident of Monticello, NY passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at home. She was 74. The daughter of the late Max Miller and Sylvia Bizinsky Miller, Marilyn was born on May 8, 1950 in Monticello, NY.
Marilyn graduated from Monticello HS in 1968 and from SUNY Albany in 1972 with a BS in Math. That is where she met her husband Roger and they were married on October 29, 1972 at the Avon Lodge in Woodridge, NY. She had embarked on a promising career as a market research analyst with Pfizer until stricken with Multiple Sclerosis in the Fall of 1974. They relocated from Queens back to her family’s bungalow colony compound in the Town of Thompson in 1977 where they built a house in 1979 that she lived in until her untimely passing. She was very talented in doing needlework in her younger years and their house has many of her framed needlepoint and crewel pieces. She was an avid NY Yankees fan and watched all their games and enjoyed game shows too. She also liked doing crossword and other puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going out to eat.
Marilyn is survived by: her devoted and loving husband Roger who was also her primary caregiver and advocate. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Dawn Lyons Miller, her brothers in law Russell and his wife Debra and David Betters, her nephews Jeff and Stefan Betters and their families as well as her very close first cousins Karen Litvack (daughters Jacki and Andrea and their spouses and children) and Alan Polsky and wife Linda (daughters Marissa and Lauren and their spouses and children).
Marilyn was predeceased by: her parents Max and Sylvia, Roger’s parents Stewart and Geraldine, her beloved brother Paul Miller, her Aunt and Uncle Esther and Lou Polsky and her cousin Karen’s husband Joe.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 12 pm at the Hurleyville Cemetery, Hurleyville, NY.
Memorial contributions in Marilyn’s name may be made to: National MS Society, Catskills Hatzalah, or the charity of your choice.
