Mary Susan Fischer, age 64, passed away on July 17, 2022 surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend to many, who will dearly miss her generous, loving presence in their lives. Born in Newark, NJ in December, 1957 she lived with her Babci and family until she was 13. The family moved to upstate New York in 1970 and sadly lost their father that year as well. Mary was raised in Jeffersonville, NY, attending JYCS ( where she held the high jump record for a number of years!!). She was a graduate of Fordham University, Bronx, NY and lived for decades in Brooklyn, NY. Her Fordham friends became lifelong friends and companions… they made her very happy and were definitely part of her family.

Mary worked principally in the investment banking world over many years with the last two decades spent at Swissbank, UBS and finally Evercore. She made many friends at each place she worked and maintained those friendships over the years. Never an enemy always friends…unless she had to work with somebody lazy…that would drive her mad.

Mary loved to travel having visited China,New Zealand, Turkey, many parts of Europe, and safaried in Africa. She also loved to head to flea markets..never buying much but always enjoying the odd conversation or two with those she met…she definitely inherited her mothers ability to start a conversation with anyone…anytime…anywhere.

Mary is survived by her sister Stephanie DeMartine and husband Peter, brother William and his wife Carolyn, brother Martin and his wife Carol and brother Michael, who cared for her during her last years, at the family home. It is especially important to note that Mary cherished her role as “Aunt Mary” to her adored nieces and nephews - Caitlin, Billy, Andrew DeMartine, Emily, Edward, Genevieve, Lily, Kelsey and Jack Fischer, and grand nieces/nephews Hanna, Edward, Daniel, Abigail, Molly and Katie DeMartine.

Mary received expert care from a team of outstanding physicians at Cornell, NY Presbyterian and Sloan Kettering especially Dr. Jeffrey Tepler (and his staff especially Matt and Cheryl), Dr. John Ng and Dr. John Healy. The family thanks them all for their care and compassion.

The funeral will be a small private family gathering in Jeffersonville. A celebration of life gathering is planned at the family house in Jeffersonville, NY on Saturday, August 13 in late afternoon from 3pm to 8pm. All friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mary’s memory to: World Central Kitchen a favorite charity of Mary’s.
