Monticello manhandles Port Jervis

MONTICELLO -- OCIAA Division III is a two team race at this point, with Minisink Valley atop the standings, and the red hot Monticello Panthers on their heels. Following a 99-33 win at home against Port Jervis on Saturday, the Monties improve to 10-5 overall, 8-2 in league play.

According to Head Coach Chris Russo, Monticello used a 29-point first quarter to fuel the 66-point win in the Pit. The Panthers were led by Josh Gattling who had 27 points and 5 assists. Other Monticello stat leaders were Jordan Ruggerio who had 24 points and 7 assists, as well as Alonzo Stergis, who added 17 points.

Monticello heads to Goshen on Thursday for another league contest.

Indoor Track

The OCIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships took place this past weekend in West Point. Two county girls -- Fallsburg's Dolce McPherson and Monticello Taina DeJesus, had exceptional performances. McPherson took first in the 55 meters (7.53 seconds) and 300 (42.44 seconds), while DeJesus won the 55 hurdles (8.71 seconds).

The Sullivan County Indoor Track and Field Championships is set to take place at SUNY Sullivan tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. See coverage in Friday's Democrat!
