Both the boys and girls had their hands full with the Eagles, dropping their season openers 3-1 and 4-0 respectively.
For the boys, Samuel Rein scored Monticello’s lone goal and goalie Andrew Weiner registered 11 saves. After a scoreless first half, the two teams made adjustments and got their offense going in the later portion of the contest.
The girls gave up two first half goals and two second half goals to finish with a 4-0 loss to the Eagles in their season opener. Alexis Heins was in the goal for Monticello and finished with 16 saves.
Despite the opening day loss, the Monticello boys turned their luck around on Wednesday, defeating Sullivan West 8-1 in a non-league contest. For the Panthers, Richard Kharchenko had a goal. Vincente Maldonado recorded a goal and three assists. Samuel Rein added two goals and an assist.
Jetzer Axy and Reese Kelly both scored a goal and added an assist. Jefferson Reyes had two goals, and Omaury Salinas had an assist. Andrew Weiner recorded 11 saves in the win as well.
