MIDDLETOWN – After posting a 5-7 (2-0) record in their 2022 campaign, the Lady Yellowjackets traveled to Middletown to take on the defending NYS Class D Girls Soccer Champions from Mount Academy. Although Eldred fought hard through the rain for 80 minutes, it was Mount Academy that secured the Section IX crown, defeating Eldred 7-0.

Mount Academy did their damage early in the game, netting six goals in the first half en route to the win over Eldred. The Lady Yellowjackets on the other hand, were unable to get a shot on goal for the duration of the game.

“The game was decided pretty early on, and even though it was rainy and gloomy the girls never lost their spirit and they fought until the end,” Coach Sami Clemmons said.

Mount Academy finished the regular season 15-1, defeating teams like Spackenkill, Rhinebeck, Highland, Millbrook and Webetuck with ease.

This is the second straight year that the Lady Yellowjackets have made it to the Class D final just to square off against the perennial juggernaut from the east.

“This is the best I’ve seen them play together all year,” Clemmons added. “The score might not show it, but we played a better game than last year and we’re happy about that.”

The Lady Yellowjackets will look to return again next year for another crack at Mount Academy, as their young team should have plenty of opportunity to grow and continue to gain experience in the offseason.
