New time for Wednesday caregiver support group

Posted

LIBERTY —The Caregiver Resource Center’s support group that assists family caregivers cope with their multiple responsibilities announces a new virtual meeting time of 6 pm beginning March 1 and continuing every Wednesday.

Facilitated by Bonnie Lewis, long-time Cornell Cooperative Extension educator, the meetings invite family caregivers to pose questions, ask for advice, share their success stories and brainstorm while comfortably at home with the person they care for.  Caregivers who attend can find or be reminded of existing aging and health services, new programs and upcoming events and share with other caregivers new strategies to cope. “Caregivers run errands, prepare meals, drive loved ones to appointments, manage medications, provide hands-on-care and so much more in this demanding role,” said Lewis. “The support group is there for the caregiver, and it is an opportunity to take a break and recognize that they too need relief and a space to seek others on the same journey.”

Caregivers are encouraged to register in advance for this meeting at Cornell Cooperative Extension’s website: http://sullivancce.org/events.  After registering, participants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

The Caregiver Resource Center is a co-partnered program of Cornell Cooperative Extension and Office for the Aging of Sullivan County.

All support groups are free and confidential. For questions, please call Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County at (845) 292-6180.

The public can contact the office to request accommodations.
