The longest standing scoring record at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships fell Saturday night April 9 as Mento Produce of Baldwinsville, NY, posted a 10,444 Team All-Events total at the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas.
Baldwinsville is a village in Onondaga County with a population of a little over 7,000 and is part of the Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical area.
The group averaged more than 238 over six games of doubles and singles, and 232 across two days and two oil patterns to solidify its place in history.
They topped the previous mark of 10,425 at the 1996 event in Salt Lake City.
Team All-Events includes the combined totals of all five team members, and while the category does not offer any prize money, it often is regarded as the most prestigious title available at the USBC Open Championship.
Brett Cunningham of Clay, NY, located near the village of Baldwinsville led the way for Mento Produce with a 2,220 all events total. His performance included sets of 799 in doubles, 761 in singles and 660 in team and also earned him a spot at the top of the Regular All-Events standings.
The 33-year-old right-hander was a new addition to a team that has enjoyed recent success at the Open Championships, much of which has come at South Point.
"That was fun and I don't think I've struck that much in a long time," Cunningham said.
Cunningham's place on the team was one he'd been waiting three years to claim, and he was excited to be able to take advantage of the opportunity.
Now this team located in central New York State must endure a wait of over 100 days to see if their score is enough to claim the team All-Events new record banner.

Using the three point targeting system:
Our suggestion is to use the 3-point system all the time.
For example, when you shoot a gun, you line your eye with front and rear sight on the gun (2 points) and a point on the target.
In talking about a 3 point targeting system in bowling, bowlers actually use a specific point at the base of the pins to complete the line.
Start on the approach. Once you are positioned, use your right foot to line up if you are right handed.
Focus on the mark until you see the ball travel over it.
The difference in targeting is the fact about using the dots in front of the arrows and the rangefinder as my third point.
Practice with the dots and you will see a great improvement with your game.
