FALLSBURG — To promote healthier eating habits for their students, the Fallsburg Central School District has taken part in the New York Thursdays meal program.
New York Thursdays is a state-wide initiative to bring locally sourced food to school cafeterias every other Thursday. The goal of the program is to not only encourage healthier eating habits but to further sustainability efforts and allow students to learn more about where their food comes from.
The reception from both students and staff has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have noticed a significant improvement in the quality of the New York Thursday meals. Some of the foods that were served included grilled chicken, chili, sweet potatoes, cornbread and broccoli.
Dr. Ivan Katz, Superintendent of Schools and occasional guest meal server, said,” New York
Thursdays are a great way for our students to taste locally produced foods as we support our local food producers and give our kids healthy options.”
The Fallsburg Central School District is proud and honored to continue participating in this program and hopes that it will further impact the school community beyond the school cafeterias.
