Nicci Meadow, formerly of Liberty, New York, died Sunday, August 11th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 61 years old.

Nicci was the daughter of the late Nathan and Hennie Meadow. A 1981 Liberty Central High School graduate, she was known as an honored scholar athlete, participating in all sports with a special passion for tennis.

Following her graduation from Northeastern University School of Law, Nicci remained in Massachusetts where she spent her life advocating for all marginalized communities. As an attorney, she served the greater Boston community: passionately working within hospitals to help the medically indigent acquire services, endlessly working for non-profits to secure housing for the homeless, and tirelessly advocating for senior citizens and anyone who needed help to improve their quality of life. She was an avid and talented artist, poet, author, and kayaker who was an important part of her Beth El spiritual community. She also served a three year term as the Executive Director of the Boston Women’s Bar Association and Foundation.

Nicci was predeceased by her brothers Howard and Ronald. She leaves behind her beloved daughter Hayden, her brother Lee (Las Vegas), her nieces Ashley and Danielle, and her nephew Ethan, as well as many cousins, colleagues, and friends.

Hayden was her pride and joy and thinking of her mother, she wrote the following:

“Nicci grew up playing tennis at Brown’s Hotel and spending time after school at her Zayde’s dairy in Liberty, NY. Her life was spent in service to others. There was no better advocate for the disenfranchised and no one more passionate about doing the right thing. Nicci was someone you wanted on your team. Nicci enjoyed spending time working on the art that was so important to her and which largely focused on nature and social justice –  often with the love of her life, her daughter Hayden. Nicci’s spirit lives on in Hayden. She was a very proud Momma and a master of making lemonade from life’s lemons, right until the end.”
