Wurtsboro

To the editor:

The Wurtsboro Board of Trade’s purpose is to promote good will and cooperation among its members; to foster trade and commerce in the Village of Wurtsboro; to render constructive civic services for the promotion of the welfare of the community and of the citizens of the Village of Wurtsboro.

As an organization, we value our non-partisan reputation. We do not embrace any political party or endorse candidates. We are committed to preserving the opportunity to work with whoever wins, and have no interest in putting these necessary relationships at risk by entering into the political fray.

Not without trepidation, our organization agreed to step into the role of sponsor for a Meet the Candidates Forum for the Town of Mamakating. Early into the planning, it became clear that our ability to be viewed as non-partisan would be jeopardized by having stepped forward. We stopped planning the event and advised all candidates of the cancellation.

We thank all who step forward to assume these often thankless (though completely necessary) local leadership roles, and would ask that all keep in sight the need to work together for the benefit of the community.
