Olga Orestano peacefully passed away on February 17th 2023 at her home in Flushing, Queens, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 102 years old and was a force of life that will always remain with us.

She was born on April 4th, 1920, to the late Frank Kozak and Irene Kozak (Puchal) of Manhattan. Also proceeding her in passing are her three younger siblings Irene (Alice) Harbut-Dinan, Stanley Kozak, Walter Kozak, her husband William N. Orestano and her grandson John Orestano.

Olga is lovingly remembered by her son William S. Orestano (Bill James), daughter-in-law, Lori Orestano-James, her son Robert Orestano, granddaughter Jessica Reis (Orestano) and her husband Marvin, granddaughter Anastaja Reyes (Orestano) and her husband Chris and her four great-grandchildren; Nicolas, Alexander, Charlotte and Frances.

As a student of life, Olga was always learning and curious about the world. This passion for learning extended into her love of world travel and her career as a teacher. She started teaching at St. Fidelis Catholic School in College Point while working towards her degree’s at Hunter College. After earning her Master’s Degree of Science in 1975, she became a 9th grade science teacher at I.S. 204 Oliver Wendall Holmes Junior High School in Long Island City until her retirement at the age of 69.
