FALLSBURG – Golfers from throughout the County visited Tarry Brae on Monday afternoon for a divisional matchup. Six groups of four hit the links in an attempt to out-drive and out-putt their competitors and earn bragging rights as they speed towards Sectionals.

The top group, starting on hole four, was led by Tri-Valley’s Gavin Clarke. His 35 (-1) was the top score of the day by nine strokes.

Monticello’s Chase McFarland was the second place finisher, and top golfer in group two with a 44.

Sean Gabel was Sullivan West’s best golfer, shooting a 62 on Monday afternoon.

For Liberty, group one’s Larry Whipple shot a 51 as he attempted to keep pace with Clarke.

Roscoe’s Aiden Johnston shot a 54 in group one for the school’s best golfer of the day.

Fallsburg’s Luciano Esposito golfed a school best 76 on Monday.

Monticello and Tri-Valley were tied at 205 to end the day, but the tiebreaker went to Monticello.

The tiebreaker was the team aggregate score on hole number 8, which Monticello’s golfers scored a 23 compared to Tri-Valley’s 25.

Following Monticello and Tri-Valley, Liberty finished with 232, Roscoe finished with 239, Sullivan West scored a 282 and Fallsburg ended the day with a 337.

These golfers, plus more from around Section IX will be meeting up next Tuesday for the OCIAA match at Stony Ford Golf Course, beginning at 9a.m.

Gavin Clarke, who has already signed to play golf at Hofstra after he graduates this year, will look to continue to build upon his already tremendous senior season, and golfers like Joseph Russo and Chase McFarland from Monticello will look to keep pace with the TV senior in the much wider competitor pool.
