MONTICELLO — The recently opened Splash Pad will always be free to locals, however, a $500 per use fee will be charged to outside users, such as buses coming from other towns, according to Village Manager James Snowden.
Village Clerk Janine McKinney said that she received a call the previous week once the caller heard the Splash Pad was open. The caller was from Monsey, NY.
“They said they would like to come because they said there’s a zoo here,” recalled McKinney. “They said they were coming to visit and they would like to go to the park and have a picnic. After asking what was there they said “Oh, great, we’ll use your Splash Pad” – I told them the Board has to make a decision.”
Village Attorney Michael Sussman explained that the buses are going to “preclude the people here from using the Pad” and it’s not going to have any exclusive use.
Regarding the hours of availability, Snowden said currently the hours of availability will be from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. every day.
While the Board hasn’t determined what day the Pad will be off, there will be a day it has off, being either Sunday or Monday in similar vein to the pool.
The motion to charge buses a $500 fee was made by Trustee Theodore Hutchins and seconded by Trustee Janice Davis. The motion was unanimously approved.
