GOSHEN- The Monticello Panthers are on the road hungry for a victory after starting their season 0-3. The Panthers were coming off an energetic game against Spackenkill, where the Panthers were close to obtaining their first win of the season, losing 30-24 in overtime.

Early in the first quarter Monticello has possession of the ball at the 1-yard line. Seth Jackson launches the ball to Javien Williams, for a 99-yard touchdown to put the first points on the board in the first quarter.  Anthony Ortiz kicks the extra point to make the score 8-0.

The Burke offense opened  the second quarter with a touchdown by Marco Langley, and an extra point to tie the score 8-8. After a second rushing touchdown from the Panthers’ Anthony Ortiz, Burke quickly closed the gap with another touchdown by  Langley. After securing the extra points Burke took a 15-14 lead with 1:45 left in the second quarter. Just before the half Javien Williams would score again to give the Panthers a 20-15 lead at the whistle.

The Panthers increased their lead to 26-15 in the opening minutes of the third quarter but Burke’s defense continued to fight back. In the final quarter Burke’s offense pushed forward gaining multiple first downs, fighting to get into the endzone with just 5:00 minutes left in the game.  As the clock ran down Burke came back, gaining a 26-29 advantage. On the   final drive for the Panthers the pass was intercepted by Burke securing the homecoming win for the Eagles.

After the game Coach Adam Rosenbarker had this to say, “It was very difficult to lose a second game in a row at the very end of the game like that. Burke made the adjustments and came out on top. I’m so proud of these guys for the hard work they have been putting in, and it is evident in their fast progress from the first two games. We just have to dig deep and finish games.” The Panthers head back on the road to face off against the O’Neil Raiders on October 4 at 1:00pm.
