Parucki gets first buck

FREMONT -- Fourteen-year-old Abby Parucki, a three -sport athlete (basketball, track and soccer) and ninth grader at Sullivan West, has long planned to go hunting.

“I always wanted to kill my own deer and eat my own meat,” she said. “I like the whole aspect of hunting, the woods and nature.”

She recently got around to getting her hunting license, borrowed friend Mike Sorge's .223 Ruger American and set out to get her first buck on Monday after school. Around 3 p.m. she and her father Troy went in the woods behind their property in Fremont and after about an hour and only having seen a couple does and a four-pointer, were ready to call it a day.

But then it happened. Her father spotted an eight-pointer and Parucki bagged the buck from 130 yards away. It scored 65 and field dressed 159 lbs.

Needless to say, Parucki will be back in the woods in the future.

“It was very exciting,” she said. “I was very happy.”
