Personnel changes in Callicoon

JEFFERSONVILLE –– Kevin Zieres is retiring as Town of Callicoon Code Enforcement Officer on September 29, after 20 years on the job.

He called his time with the Town, “a rewarding experience.”

Zieres’ tenure as code enforcement officer, coupled with 30 years with the North Branch Fire Department, makes 50 years serving his community.

“It is with mixed feelings that I will end this chapter of my life ... get a new one, whatever that may be,” said Zieres. “I’d like to thank the town board for supporting me in this position throughout my tenure.”

A familar face will take over for Zieres.

At last Monday’s Town Board meeting, Town of Callicoon Supervisor Tom Bose announced Highway Superintendent Kris Scullion’s appointment as Zieres’ successor. Scullion’s last day as Highway Superintendent will also be September 29. He starts his new role on September 30.

Zieres will remain with the Town on a per diem basis, at an hourly rate, to assist with the transition.

Bose was complimentary of both men’s tenure in their respective positions.

“Kevin has always been a good face of the Town of Callicoon,” said Bose. “He’s done his job ... Years ago, that position was a much easier position [as] just simply a building inspector ... and then it morphed into, after the adoption of our zoning, to become code enforcement officer as well. That made the job much more difficult. And I just want to thank Kevin for your years of service.”

Bose added that he’s had the pleasure of working with no less than three highway superintendents in his time on the board.

“I just want to tell you, really how much I appreciate how hard you’ve worked,” Bose told Scullion. “Kris has put his heart and soul into his position. I know the Town is appreciative of his service.”

Special meeting

It’s budget season for many local municipalities.

Speaking of which, the Callicoon Town Board set a special meeting for Tuesday, October 4 at 2:30 p.m. At that time, they will hold their annual budget presentation. The meeting will be at Callicoon Town Hall, located on 19 Legion Street, in Jeffersonville.
