This summer has been action-packed as we are all trying to return to some version of normal again. Folks have taken to the highways and byways to enjoy these summer days.
Many people have stopped wearing masks, I’ve noticed, and I have very mixed feelings about that. I hope that the worst is behind us, and word is that Pfizer and Moderna vaccines protect us against the Delta variant, so that’s great. However, I’m not sure it’s 100% safe to go without masks everywhere.
Many businesses now have signs that say, “Customers who have been vaccinated need not wear masks.” Call me a cynic, but I am not sure that I trust that all those people wandering about without masks have actually been vaccinated. And how are we going to verify that they have? That’s why I wear my mask when I’m out and about.
Not for myself, but because I am often around my granddaughter who is not yet able to be vaccinated. I would hate to be an unwitting carrier of any virus that could affect her or any of her young friends.
I was speaking to a woman from China who explained that the Chinese have a different mindset regarding public safety in such matters. Essentially, she said, they have a strong sense of community and an understanding that sometimes personal choice must be curtailed for the common good. That is why they were so strictly quarantined in the beginning of the Covid outbreak.
She did say, however, that the Chinese were increasing their vaccine efforts because of their shared border with India, which has been hit hard by Covid.
In our country, of course, personal freedom comes first but rugged individualism can sometimes be detrimental to the public good. Those people who were protesting mask-wearing all through the pandemic are a case in point. I’ve heard all their excuses. “I’m young and healthy.” “I work out every day.” “I don’t know anyone who’s gotten Covid.”
Guess what? I do know people who have suffered from Covid and who are still suffering with its long-term effects. And I know people who have died from Covid and have heard of young, healthy people who have died from this terrible virus.
Now we have FDA-approved vaccines that can protect us. Despite the crazy rumors out there, these vaccines are safe. And now they are widely available to anyone age 12 or older, and trials on children younger are ongoing.
If you haven’t gotten your vaccine, please get it. And if you haven’t been vaccinated, please be kind enough to wear your mask. It’s a part of being a responsible member of society. And if you don't know, now you know!

If Werner listened to the REAL science and read the REAL data on who covid was affecting, she wouldn't worry about her granddaughter who she says is is not yet able to be vaccinated. She should be worried about the growing number of colleges age students who were vaccinated and are now being diagnosed with enlarged hearts. She should be worried about the teenage girl who is now paralyzed after getting the shots and the thirteen years old boy who died in his sleep a few days after getting the shots. Every time once revered doctors and scientists speak out against these vaccines and WHY they are against them, they are attacked and silenced by the one sided media. Werner chooses to believe everything the bought and paid for "experts" are dictating. Forget the fact that they flip flop on their opinions from week to week when told to do so. FEAR is the number once reason (and so well used by the media) that people are still wearing masks when outside, when in their own home, when driving alone in their car...

Chinese have a different mindset for public safety - that's right the disease started there. Sometimes personal choice must be curtailed for the common good - ARE you sure this woman is from China, communist China?
You're saying our Freedoms are detrimental to the common-good, I think you have covered that more than 100% while you're pushing China here.
Call you a cynic? No I would call you a few things, more than that for the stupid things you have said and pushed in the past.
You don't trust your fellow human being to be truthful, do us all a favor keep the mask on and put another above it and do what the CDC said about people 65 and over = stay home, do a little food shopping and STAY HOME - but you went out!
What would you know about being a responsible member of society after trashing a sitting president for so long?
