PRASAD Celebrates 25th Anniversary

PRASAD Children’s Dental Health Program (PRASAD CDHP) held a ribbon cutting to celebrate its 25th Anniversary on Tuesday, November 14.

PRASAD CDHP has provided dental health education classes and services to more than 90,000 children in Sullivan County.

“…we’re a family union,” Executive Director Dr. M Cecilia Escarra told the crowd of attendees, referencing her staff, “and as a family we work with our heart, we trust each other, we support each other and that’s why, again, we are here today to celebrate.”

The ceremony was also held to celebrate PRASAD’s acquisition of a new and improved mobile dental clinic, replacing their outdated mobile clinic. This was in thanks due to a $600,000 grant from The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation in support of PRASAD’s Happy Healthy Smiles project.

PRASAD CDHP works together with state and local organizations, such as Sullivan County Public Health, school districts, and the New York State Department of Health, to enhance health outcomes. They raise awareness of the value of good oral health among kids and parents through their collaboration with community health groups and educational institutions.

“I remember when you were in your van driving around,” New York State Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther said, “And then this [Liberty Branch] came and what an amazing thing you’ve done for our community. You’ve really changed the world of teeth in Sullivan County, so thank you.”

Assemblywoman Gunther followed her speech by presenting Dr. Escarra with a certificate from the New York State Assembly.

Looking towards the future, PRASAD CDHP is looking to expand the reach of their unique and highly service delivery business model in order to meet the growing dental needs of underserved children in the community.

“We love our work and are committed to continuing it to improve the oral health of children and being a model program that responds to community needs,” Dr. Escarra stated in PRASAD’s 25th anniversary newsletter.
