To the editor:

In the October 8th edition of your paper Gerald McMurrer addressed the lead article of the October 5th edition which had the headline “March for Reproductive Rights comes to Narrowsburg”.  Mr. McMurrer incorrectly says that your paper was “promoting abortion”.  Nowhere in the article did you say you promote abortion.

Reproductive rights is something that is personal to a woman. The bill that is in question in Texas would outlaw abortion after 6 weeks. After having so many children Mr. McMurrer should know that sometimes a woman doesn’t always know she’s pregnant until multiple weeks after being late for her cycle -- which is often more than 6 weeks.  And it comes down to the fact that abortion IS legal in this country and it’s the woman’s choice as to what she does with her own body.

How does Mr. McMurrer feel about sex education and contraception?  These are key reproductive health pieces that curtail the need for abortions. Being pro-choice regarding reproductive rights does not mean pro-abortion, it means just what it says, Pro-Choice. The woman’s choice. Not the Government’s, not any church and certainly not a bunch of men in Texas.
