In the January 7 front page article written by managing editor Joseph Abraham regarding the airport agreement between the county and HatzolAir it appears during discussion that the entire Sullivan County Legislature through its Public Works Committee needed some questions answered but never got the chance to even ask them.

The article stated, “expressing issues with the contract, Legislator Joe Perrello, who chairs the Public Works Committee said he thought the lease agreement would have come back to committee and that they’d be able to get input from the County Manager, Division of Public Works and the Airport Superintendent.”

Perello pointed out that this did not happen and he also expected HatzolAir to come in and give a presentation about their plans and what they needed from the County.

The chairman of the Public Works Committee expressed to his fellow legislators that they have to go through the entire contract again.

If a lease agreement between the County and HatzolAir has already been signed we would sincerely hope that the Public Works Committee was fully informed with all the details.

Former Sullivan County Republican Committee Chairman Greg Goldstein, a current member of the County’s Airport Development Commission, claimed that some County officials knew nothing of the lease being signed.

Calling the airport an asset, Goldstein told the legislature to “get it together.”

Goldstein noted, “It doesn’t matter what political party the legislators belong to,” and he urged the legislative chair to “just bring everybody in the fold and all work together.”

With such an important issue involving a lengthy contract like this it’s time for total cooperation of this legislative body.
