Record turnout for Boniface Derby

NARROWSBURG -- The Ted Boniface Family Memorial Ice Fishing Derby was held at Crystal Lake in Camp Keowa at the Boy Scouts of America's Camp at Ten Mile River on January 30. There were 102 young people and their families that attended the event, which is put on each year by the Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs of Sullivan County.

The Derby, which is free for everyone attending, is sponsored by the Ted Boniface family, the Boy Scouts of America, the Sullivan County Democrat and the Federation. It was a cold, windy day but the sun came out and made it very pleasant.

Derby winners were Madison and Rielly Lamantia who took first in the pickerel division, Camrym Joyce for first place crappie, Gabriella Goldsmith for first place perch, and Jace Decker for first place panfish.

The Federation said, “Congratulations to all the young fishermen on a job well done and for making the event safe with proper social distancing.”

The Fishing Derby Event Chairman, Carl Lindsley, stated that it was the best turnout ever, in all the years that he has been in charge.

The Federation would like to thank everyone that donated and helped out, with a special thank you to Lang's for donating portable restroom facilities and N. G. Gilbert tree services for their generous donation.
