Justice Court Judge, Town of Thompson, Candidate

I was born and raised in Sullivan County. I grew up and currently reside with my family in the Town of Thompson. I graduated from Monticello High School, Wesleyan University and attended law school at Pace University where I graduated with honors. I have practiced law in Sullivan County for the past 30 years and am running for Justice Court Judge in the Town of Thompson.

My mother, Hazel Baum, grew up on a chicken farm in Ferndale, daughter of Max and Beatrice Brender who were leaders in chicken breeding, the distribution of eggs and started pullets. My father, Morton Baum, grew up in the Bronx and his parents were in the garment business. He came to Sullivan County to practice law in 1961, in Woodridge. I practiced with him my entire career until his death in 2016.

My wife Elisa is a teacher in Fallsburg Central School District. My sons, Max and Luke are in school; Luke attends Monticello high school and Max attends the Clarkson School at Clarkson University.

I am admitted to practice law in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia, as well as federal court in the Southern District of New York and the district of New Jersey.

I have practiced in local, county, state and federal courts. I have appeared regularly in justice courts handling a wide variety of matters. I understand the importance of the Justice Court which has jurisdiction over vehicle and traffic, misdemeanors, preliminary jurisdiction on felony matters, small claims, evictions and code violations. The importance of this court should not be underestimated. The justice court serves an important role and is the court which you are most likely to have some contact with.

During various times in my career, I have volunteered my time in various aspects of public service including Kiwanis, the Harris hospital board, coaching youth soccer, little league, and I devote part of my practice to municipal matters serving as counsel to three villages and a school district.

I am an avid outdoorsman. My family and I enjoy boating, fishing, four-wheeling and the shooting sports. Although I have hung up my skis, my family are snow skiers.

I possess the experience and skills necessary to be your judge. It would be my honor to serve. I am asking for your vote. Please spread the word.
