DOWNSVILLE -- The Blue Devils earned their first win of the season in a non-league matchup Friday night over Downsville, after starting 0-5. The 58-49 victory sent the Blue Devils to the championship round of the tournament for a rematch against the Deposit-Hancock Eagles. The second matchup was a much better game than the first, but the Blue Devils still fell short, 72-41.

Collin Garofolo and Alaniz Ruiz led the Blue Devils with 11 points each in the loss, and the team's 41 points quadrupled the numbers they put up as a team in the first meeting between these two teams.

“You have to give credit to Deposit-Hancock for being such a fine team,” Roscoe Coach Fred Ahart said after the game. “Rebounding is their number one asset, and they were all over the boards tonight.”

For Roscoe to have earned their first win the night before and play better in the championship round, the young team is continuing to improve after their season opener.

“Improvement is what we are looking for. We have come a long way but there is still work to be done,” Coach Ahart said. “As long as we take it one game at a time, the season goals will take care of themselves.”

The Blue Devils are 1-6, and their next game will be a league matchup at home against Eldred on January 7.
