NEVERSINK — State Route 55 in the Town of Neversink was closed for two hours on Tuesday after a vehicle lost control and collided head on with a school bus transporting students from the Tri-Valley Central School District.

According to New York State Police, Troopers from the Liberty Barracks responded around 11:45 a.m.

State Police say that a 2021 Jeep Cherokee was traveling east on State Route 55 when it struck a guide rail and veered into the opposite lane, striking the school bus that was traveling west.

According to State Police Troop F Public Information officer Steven Nevel, the school bus was carrying 18 high school aged students and was traveling to Sullivan BOCES in Liberty.

All passengers on the bus were transported to Garnet Health Medical Center - Catskills in Harris for evaluation.

State Police say that no one on the bus, including the driver, suffered any serious injuries.

The operator of the Jeep Cherokee was transported to Westchester Medical Center by helicopter with multiple fractures.

Further investigation is ongoing.
