MONTICELLO - The Sullivan County Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (SCPBA) has been and continues to be an active member in the Sullivan County community. Each year the PBA has given out scholarships to deserving local students in support of their education. On Wednesday, June 29, the PBA handed out four $500 scholarships to area students in pursuit of college degrees. Alyza Garcia, Kaitlyn Potter, Cavan Leaney-Levenson, and Isabel Cruz were the 2022 recipients.

Two separate scholarships are awarded by the PBA, with the first being the Robert Chemereys Memorial Scholarship which is granted to a student pursuing a degree and career path in the area of criminal justice. The second scholarship provided is the Debra Hall Memorial Scholarship given to a student following the course of study towards the care and welfare of animals, and/or veterinary science. Both scholarships are in honor of previous members of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, who have died as a result of cancer.

Continuing their service to the community, on Sunday, June 26, members of the SCPBA convened to conduct a semi-annual litter pluck on State Route 17 at exit 104 in the Town of Thompson. The PBA in conjunction with Schmidt’s Wholesale holds that location on the Eastbound and Westbound on and off ramps through the NYSDOT Adopt an Exit Program. PBA members assist in this on their own time, in an effort to give back to the community they are proud and honored to serve.
