Sherman Kortright, a lifetime resident of Neversink, NY, passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2022. He was 93.

He was born January 23, 1929 to the late Earl and Bertha Kortright in Neversink, NY. On December 3, 1949, he married the love of his life, Violet Furman of Hasbrouck. He was a retiree from Operating Engineers Union, working as a Master Mechanic at Sullivan Highway Products in Liberty. As a veteran of the US Army, he proudly served our country in World War II and in the Korean War. Sherman was a true outdoorsman and sportsman who loved spending time in the woods, hunting, fishing, riding his 4-wheeler, and cutting firewood. He was a “Jack of all trades”: a carpenter, electrician, plumber, and mechanic; there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do! As a talented woodworker, he took great pleasure in making things for others.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Violet Furman Kortright; four children, Donald Kortright and his wife Leonna, Gary Kortright and his wife Sharon, Pamela Hamlin and her husband Cliff, and Mark Kortright and his wife Merri; eight grandchildren, Christina Kortright, Michael Kortright, Heather Leudemann, Amanda Hulsey, Lane Kortright, Jaclyn Hamlin, Scott Hamlin, and Joshua Kortright; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by eight brothers, Gilbert, Ivan ”Bob”, Clifford, Albert “Mike”, Preston, Earl “Pete”, Roy “Dutch”, and Milton “Mitt.”

Graveside services and burial with military honors will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 10 AM in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate.

Memorial contributions in Sherman’s name may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY, 845-292-0001 or 845-439-5200 or www.Harris-FH.com
