SULLIVAN COUNTY  — November will be here sooner than you think. With that in mind, the Sullivan County Democrat polled all nine legislators to see if they’ve made up their minds on whether or not they’d seek re-election.

Majority Leader Alan Sorensen, who has represented District 9 since 2008, is the only one that told the Democrat that he will not seek re-election.

“I certainly want to spend more time with my family,” said Sorensen, “and feel I’ve definitely made a difference serving on this legislature. But I’m at the point in my life where I want to focus on something else. I’m fully committed to fulfilling my term and serving my community to the best of my abilities.”

The second longest serving legislator of the current group, Ira Steingart, who represents District 8 and is the Minority Leader, told the Democrat that he is undecided on if he will seek re-election and is keeping all of his options open.

Legislative Chairman Rob Doherty (District 1), Vice Chair Michael Brooks (District 3), District 2 Legislator Nadia Rajsz, District 4 Legislator Nicholas Salomone, District 5 Legislator George Conklin, District 6 Legislator Luis Alvarez and District 7 Legislator Joe Perrello all told the Democrat they are running for re-election.
