Special Program at the Equinunk Historical Society on November 6

EQUINUNK, PA - The Equinunk Historical Society will gratefully honor veteran Everett Hawley in a program on Saturday, November 6, at 1 p.m.

This program was originally scheduled to take place on Memorial Day weekend, but was postponed because of the pandemic. Appropriately, with Veterans’ Day imminent, EHS is pleased to be able to honor Everett who was a member of the National Guard in the 1950’s. Traveling with his unit for training prior to deployment to Korea, on Sept. 11, 1950 a fast Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train ploughed into the rear of the standing troop train in Ohio, during a heavy fog. Thirty-three young men lost their lives in the wreck. (Excerpted from Ohio State Highway Patrol records.) Mr. Hawley will be traveling from his home in the south to be with attendees.

EHS is located at 1972 Pine Mill Rd. in the center of Equinunk. Museum doors open at noon. The Calder Gift Shop will also be open for your early holiday shopping convenience. For information call (570) 224-6722 and leave a message. Your call will be returned promptly.
