VERONA – The New York State High School Football Coaches Association (NYSHSFCA) hosted their 2023 Coaches Clinic this past weekend at the Turning Stone Resort. On Friday night, an Awards Banquet was held to celebrate the 2022-23 NYSHSFCA Awards Winners and 2022 New York State Football Championship Award Winners.

Anthony Morgano, the Sports Editor of the Sullivan County Democrat, was presented the Hunter Low Media Service Award for his coverage of local teams.

“Anthony has done a great job covering all sports in Sullivan County. He travels out of county for coverage of football games. He takes time during interviews and knows the right questions to ask,” his nomination read.

“His goal is to promote athletes from Sullivan County, where a lot of coverage is missed. He has done an exceptional job of promoting 8-man football in Section 9. He prints stories on weekly games and previews the matchups. He has a good relationship with many players in the county, and they look forward to his stories in the papers and the photos that he takes.”

At the dinner, Morgano was surrounded by State Champion coaches and athletes, including Class C’s champs from Section IX James I O’Neill.

“I couldn’t do what I do if it wasn’t for all the hard work that the coaches and student athletes put in throughout the year. I wouldn’t be standing here if not for you,” Morgano said from the podium after receiving his award.

“I am truly humbled and thankful to know that my work is recognized and appreciated.”

“Anthony’s work ethic and dedication to providing well-balanced sports coverage, especially when it  comes to local youth, is apparent,” said Sullivan County Democrat Managing Editor Joe Abraham. “This honor is well-deserved and we know its the first of many in his young career.”
