FERNDALE – Sullivan 180 announces it will be hosting ‘The Basics Sullivan’ workshop training followed by a screening of the film “Resilience – The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope” on Thursday, October 21 from 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the CVI Auditorium, at One Cablevision Center in Liberty.

The evening will begin with a workshop on “The Basics Sullivan” led by Dr. Aleta Lymon of Fallsburg Central School District. Dr. Lymon will provide an overview of ‘The Basics’ and how Sullivan County can start implementing this framework with children ages 0-3 to improve early brain growth. ‘The Basics’ principles are five fun, simple, and powerful ways to help all children grow to be happy and smart; 1) maximize love, manage stress 2) talk, sing, and point 3) count, group, and compare 4) explore through movement and play 5) read and discuss stories. This workshop is encouraged for many individuals who care for children – parents, grandparents, caregivers, hospitals, health centers, schools, community centers, childcare providers, churches, family members, and more.

A screening of the film “Resilience – The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope” will also be shown to provide participants with a deeper understanding of ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences). The film dives into this cutting edge research, and highlights how toxic stress adversely affects health and brain development, and is linked to everything from heart disease and cancer to substance abuse and depression. Sullivan 180’s Resilience Team will lead about a discussion of gut-reactions and feedback, and how to treat and prevent toxic stress in children and greatly improve the health of future generations.

Please join Sullivan 180 and our community for a meaningful evening of education and inspiration. This event is free. Healthy refreshments will be served, and registration is required with proof of vaccination (either upon registration or at the event). To register, please visit: www.Sullivan180.org.

Sullivan 180’s mission is to build a healthy, vibrant Sullivan County where everyone has a sense of purpose, connection to family and community and access to fresh foods and an active lifestyle.
