SUNY adopts budget and preps for accreditation

LOCH SHELDRAKE – Although it awaits full approval from the county and from the college, the SUNY Sullivan Board of Trustees recently passed a resolution to adopt their budget for the 2022-2023 school year with a total of $17,734,474 and are continuing the process of reaccreditation.

During the Board of Trustees meeting on May 12, SUNY Sullivan President Jay Quaintance stated that SUNY Sullivan is currently due to renew their accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) for the 2022-2023 school year, with plans in place to proceed with the evaluation process.

It’s most recent accreditation review process took place in 2010-2012, wherein the institution had to demonstrate excellence in 14 Standards. Now, the Commission evaluates institutions on seven Standards.

The Commission maintains an eight-year cycle of review, beginning with a self-study and on-site evaluation visit.

“It is an opportunity for us to tell our story to a group of outsiders ... and represent ourselves as what we all know, that we are an outstanding institution, that our students go on to do great things,” Quaintance said.

Free Tuition for Sullivan Residents

SUNY Sullivan also recently announced their Sullivan Promise Scholarship, in which residents of Sullivan County who are a member of the current graduating class of an area high school, or is a recipient of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) in 2022, have the opportunity to receive fee tuition and fees for one year of attendance at SUNY Sullivan.
