Thanksgiving screw ups

I decided to do Thanksgiving dinner the easy way this year so I ordered a precooked dinner from ShopRite. It consisted of turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and a string bean casserole. I was foresighted enough to get cranberry sauce and pies ahead of time. What could go wrong?

My son, Michael got to ShopRite at 1:30 so did some additional shopping before picking up the large box of food just as they were closing at 2PM. When he brought it into the house and started to unpack it, we found all the containers of side dishes but there was a whole Butter Ball turkey that was wrapped in plastic mesh, which made me think it wasn't cooked. Mike said “I guess they screwed up.”

The plan to compensate for that was to go buy some turkey. He first went to the River Edge Diner but they had closed at two. I knew the Fairmont Diner in Hackensack was open until three so he rushed to that one. There they had full turkey dinners for $10 each but we didn't need the full dinner so they gave him extra turkey - enough for four people since we were taking some to my daughter and grandson. They charged $40 for that.

Meanwhile, back at the house, I had called Boston Market and found that they were open on Thanksgiving. I texted Michael and told him to go there and pick up two chickens, but he had already made the deal at Fairmont.

When we unpacked the ShopRite turkey and removed the plastic mesh net, we found that the turkey was fully cooked and not frozen and just needed to be heated up.

I also found that my son didn't get the digital coupons for the two containers of Turkey Hill ice cream that I had told him to get, so that was another $2 loss in addition to the $40 one.

We were so grateful that everything turned out so well. I am sure next Thanksgiving will be even better.
