Thanksgiving virtually?

Posted

There are many questions unanswered as to how New York State is regulating the updated travel advisory (quarantine) to the list of 39 states and two territories.

Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania have been added to the list and New York State highly discourages, to the extent practical, nonessential travel to these states.

The latest says neighboring state visitors are now exempt from traveling to New York but New York is still highly discouraging, to the extent practical. (what ever that means) nonessential travel to neighboring states.

So the question I have is… if we go shopping in Pennsylvania as we so often do, are we then quarantined when we come back into New York State and do we have to report to the state that we were in Pennsylvania?

And with Thanksgiving on the horizon many folks are still planning to spend time with their families, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo is warning against large family gatherings.

In a recent conference call Cuomo said that while residents are not banned from traveling around the country to see family, he stressed that people must follow the state's travel advisory quarantine guidelines.

“My personal advice is that the best way to say “I love you” this Thanksgiving, the best way to say “I'm so thankful for you, that I don't want to endanger you so we'll celebrate virtually,” Cuomo said.

A recent Butterball survey showed that 30% of the folks planned to host only their immediate family this year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention their guidelines cite small dinners as the lowest risk celebration while attending large indoor gatherings with people from outside of your household is labeled the highest risk.

The old saying… go over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house appears to be the best way to do Thanksgiving this year.

A blessed and safe Happy Thanksgiving to all.
