To the editor:
It was with mixed feelings on hearing the news that my good friend Judy Maidenbaum was closing the Fat Lady Café. Knowing the physical and mental toll it had taken on her this year, I was somewhat relieved.
On the other hand, I felt a great deal of sadness by the loss and extreme pride in her accomplishment. The Fat Lady was an institution in Kauneonga Lake and will be sorely missed.
For those of you who enjoy eating by the Lake, a huge debt is owed to Judy Maidenbaum. She singlehandedly was responsible for the rebirth of Kauneonga Lake. She was the first, when the Town was in shambles, to invest and build a restaurant. It was because of her vision, her courage and guts that caused others to follow. Today, the Lake is the place to be during the Spring and Summer.
The food was always good. And while Judy was way ahead of her time with respect to the Farm to Table concept, it was the force of her personality that attracted people to her. The Fat Lady was Alice’s Restaurant and Friends rolled into one. The regulars got to know one another. Discussions with Judy about politics, the environment, religion, parking, you name it, it was always on the menu and the highlight. It was comfortable, fun, interesting, and unique.
On behalf of the ‘Posse’ (of which I am a member), another interesting and unique group, our heartfelt thanks for your friendship and all you have done for our community.

Oh boy what a write up, an imagination that can't be beat.
Politics, religion and whatever else, if it's anything like her letters , they must be doozies.
So sit back and have another drink, hope your not driving.

Oh sure, ignore all the numerous health code violations (you can find how many and what for on line) the drug deals that went on and her fights with our town board. FAT mouth. Hope someone pleasant buys that restaurant and turns it into a very clean and welcoming place to dine.

She was a top mouth to knock down the firehouse for parking! What an idiot.
Religion, she knows nothing about I proved that, Politics - as you only a liberal would listen to her stupidity.
Steve you must still be bending on the stool, you make her out to be a god and she is far from it.
Relatives, against what I warned, went to her place to eat. One got food with human hair in it, another had flies landing on theirs and you could count the spiders as they walked by. Bartender was a nasty one too, oh maybe it was Judy herself!
Why don't you talk about the massive amounts of VIOLATIONS she received, no you can only push an agenda, an agenda of lies.
Sad that you have to idol a person like Judy but to put it on all of us, that's pathetic.
Good thing she's closing or being closed, she needs to go and take you along.
She has sung, time for her to shut up and leave.
