The Great Wall of Honesdale is getting a little bit greater this year as 14-year-old Amanda Miehle has been selected to showcase her art.

Amanda, who was born with Down syndrome, is a student in the Western Wayne School District and has been drawing since she was little.

She is the winner of the Honesdale Jaycee's Student Award this year.

The Great Wall of Honesdale is a Wayne County Arts Alliance outdoor art exhibition program that exhibits reproductions of original artwork on a yearly basis. The exhibit changes yearly and runs from May to April.

Since she was three years old Amanda has been drawing variations of the same figure of a girl wearing a dress.

She has hundreds of these drawings and her piece that will be displayed on the Great Wall was created by assembling just a small sample of her drawings that form a rainbow.

All of the drawings feature different colors and patterns. The characters wear an A-shaped dress and a belt with an A in the middle.

Amanda says she loves fashion and wants to be a fashion designer. She also loves to sing and wants to be a pop star.

Both of her parents, Brad and Kristen Miehle, are artists as well, working in sculpture, paint and photography, and their son, Brad, is a musician who composes his own arrangements.

So you could say art and creativity runs in the family.

“We're very proud of Amanda and her interest in spreading joy and happiness and being an inspiration,” Kristen said.

A gallery show featuring all of the 2021 Great Wall artists will be held at the Main Street Gallery, 959 Main St., Honesdale from June 10 through July 10, with an opening reception held on Saturday, June 12 from 4 to 6 p.m.

You can also cast your vote for the People's Choice Contest and the winning artwork will be printed on a t-shirt.
