NARROWSBURG — The Ten Mile River (TMR) Scout Museum is offering evening history talks through August. These events are open to scouts and to the public at 7 p.m. in the open-air Cayuga/Kotohke Cabin at 1481 Crystal Lake Road (County Road 26), Narrowsburg. The history talks take place as follows:

  • July 12 – “The Original People” The Lenape used these mountains to hunt, fish, trade with the Mohawks and teach their children.
  • July 19 – “Local Ghost Stories” From murder on the Stone Arch Bridge to tales by Stephen Crane, legends abound.
  • July 26 – “Sullivan County History” From Woodstock to the Battle of Minisink to the D&H Canal – a lot happened here.
  • Aug 2 – “The Nature of TMR” A Bio-Blitz recorded every living thing around Rock Lake during a 24-hour period in 2014 and again in 2016.
  • Aug 9 – “Remembering Camp Life” Long-time camper and Museum Co-Director Ira Nagel leads a discussion about summer camp at TMR.
  • Aug 16 – “Tales of the Raftsmen” Stories the lumbermen and rafters told themselves, including “How the Ten Mile River Got Its Name.”
